Is Chiropractic Addictive?
I have had a lot of patients and people tell me in the last
few months, “why is it that once you
start going to a chiropractor you have to keep going?”
Now, I don’t like this miss conception because you can say
the same thing about almost anything.
“Why is it once you start working
out you have to keep working out?”
“Why is it that once you go to the
dentist you have to keep going to the dentist?”
“Why is it that once you start
taking pain pills you have to keep taking the pain pills?”
“Why is it that once you start eating
healthy you have to keep eating healthy?”
“Why is it that once you buy a car
you have to keep getting the oil changed?”
If you want anything
to last you have to take care of it!
Most people do not treat their bodies as good as they do their cars,
bikes, guns, boats, golf clubs, televisions, gardens etc…..
That being said there are a lot of chiropractors out there
who say you need to come in every week for the rest of your life. Is that for everyone no!!
I personally know people who go that often because they feel
like their bodies need it!! I also have
patients who come in every other week, every 2 months, every 4 months, every 6
months or twice a year. It is not
because they have to; it is
because they feel better when they do, they are able to do more of what they love with less interruption from
sickness, injury and disease.
It is like being able to tell that your car needs its oil
change without looking at the mileage.
It feels sluggish, it does not respond as quickly or nimbly, the engine revs more and has to work harder to do the same amount of work.
SO …, “How often should I go to the chiropractor?” The
answer: As often as you feel your
body needs it. One of my patients said it this way,"I try to come before I "need" to"
Some good indicators would be when you start up a new or
different workout or workout schedule, when you are sore, when you are getting sick, when you are really stressed, after a sporting
event, after a car accident (no matter how minor), after a fall, when you feel
minor aches and pains, or when you feel like your body needs a tune up.
Just don’t put it off because someone told you once you
start you can’t stop! Take care of your body and it will take care of you! Come see me!! Get in, get out, and get living!!
